    Youth Counselor

    Program: Journey of Hope
    Reports to: Shift Supervisor
    Location: Emsworth or Moon campus
    Hours: Full-time, non-exempt
    The following shifts are available. Kindly include in your cover letter which shift(s) you prefer.
    Morning Shift – 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. *Bilingual preferred
    Afternoon Shift:  2:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. *Bilingual preferred
    Overnight Shift – 10:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.


    GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
    The Youth Counselor assists the Shift Supervisor in providing direct daily supervision and monitoring of children in care of the Journey of Hope LTFC program. Final approval for hire will be done by the Project Officer of the Office of Refugee and Resettlement which is a sub-agency of the Department of Health and Human Services of the federal government.

    Essential Functions

    • Promote and uphold the mission, values, and professional image of Holy Family Institute.
    • Maintain positive, respectful, and professional relationships with youth, staff, volunteers, families, community partners, and regulatory agencies.
    • Demonstrate teamwork, effective communication, professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and constructive problem-solving.
    • Provide safe, supportive, and therapeutic care for children and youth, including those with special needs, while maintaining appropriate supervision at all times.
    • Model and reinforce appropriate behavior, social skills, conflict resolution, independent living skills, and respect for individual cultural, religious, and personal backgrounds.
    • Implement the SELF Model, HART Model, Individual Service Plans, and approved behavior management strategies.
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of youth by responding appropriately to emergencies, crises, medical needs, accidents, and behavioral incidents using approved training and procedures.
    • Administer and monitor medications, attend and support medical appointments, communicate medical information, and follow all healthcare-related instructions and documentation requirements.
    • Maintain a safe, clean, secure, and sanitary environment, including reporting hazards, securing restricted items, inspecting for contraband, and maintaining agency property, equipment, supplies, and vehicles.
    • Follow all transportation requirements, including safe driving practices, vehicle maintenance, and child passenger safety procedures.
    • Complete all required documentation, reports, records, and communications accurately, thoroughly, legibly, and within established timeframes.
    • Conduct program orientation and intake procedures for new youth as assigned.
    • Support agency accreditation, licensing, compliance, and quality assurance efforts by adhering to all policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
    • Participate in all required training and promptly report any legal matters or background changes as required by agency policy and applicable regulations.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. 

    Requirements

    • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
    • Minimum one year of experience working with children; residential or human services experience preferred.
    • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and documentation skills.
    • Ability to effectively interact with diverse populations and maintain accurate electronic records, medical files, and basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
    • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license and ability to operate agency vehicles.
    • Must be at least 21 years of age.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain required clearances (Act 33/34 and FBI).
    • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to perform essential job functions and maintain regular attendance in accordance with applicable laws.
    • Ability to lift/push up to 20 pounds independently and up to 50 pounds with assistance.
    • Ability to remain alert throughout assigned shifts and respond quickly to emergencies or crisis situations.
    • Ability to verbally de-escalate youth and implement approved Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques.
    • Ability to frequently walk, climb stairs, and engage in activities requiring physical exertion.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person and by telephone.
