    Journey of Hope Program Security Specialist

    Program: Safety & Security
    Reports to: VP of Security & Facilities
    Location: Pittsburgh HFI locations
    Hours: Full-time, 11pm – 7am
     

    HFI Mission Duties:
    Holy Family Institute (HFI) is a 120-year-old Catholic organization with an impeccable history of serving children and families in the Pittsburgh Region. We are one of Pittsburgh’s largest social service organizations operating 15 programs in three counties. We are an independent organization guided by Catholic Social Teachings and serving people of all faiths and backgrounds.           
     
    General Statement of Duties:
    The Safety & Security Specialists will provide 24/7 security, making rounds, monitoring visitors on campus, watching video cameras, ensuring safety, and completing end of shift reports.  Safety & Security Specialists will monitor additional activities related to overall building and ground safety and security. This candidate must be able to perform assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner while working both independently and as a team.
     
    Essential duties and responsibilities: 
    • Promotes the Mission and Philosophy of Holy Family Institute
    • The Security Specialist will provide 24/7 security, making rounds, monitoring visitors on campus, watching video cameras,
    • ensuring the safety of Unaccompanied Children, and completing end of shift reports
    • Security Specialists will monitor additional activities related to overall building and ground safety and security
    • Documents and reports all incidents as per agency policy and procedure
    • Completes regular routine rounds as per policies and procedures
    • Promotes positive professional image of the agency through interpersonal interactions and appearance.
    • Develop and maintain professional and supportive relationships with all agency staff, volunteers, local community
    • members and outside contractors and vendors
    • Conducts and generates written reports for fire drills
    • Checks fire suppression equipment, (fire extinguishers, hydrants, sprinklers, and kitchen hood system) in all the facilities
    • and vehicles of the program monthly and assists in annual inspections
    • Responds to and handles fire alarms for the HFI facilities
    • Responds to and handles or provides assistance with campus-wide emergencies
    • Corrects and provides minor maintenance to identify safety hazards and causes for action to be taken on larger hazards
    • through either immediate notification of key staff or email/voice mail
    • Oversee and maintain card access systems and supports video surveillance and two-way radio systems for the Journey
    • of Hope Program
    • Checks and locks facilities and create a record of any open/unlocked doors
    • Must have flexible hours based on needs of program
    • Participates in team meetings, administrative meetings and other meetings as assigned
    • Participates in all required agencies and regulatory training within expected time frame
    • Promptly reports civil or criminal convictions, charges, arrests, investigations, or adjudications that may arise since staff member’s last background investigation. This includes but is not limited to sexual abuse in a prison, jail, holding facility, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, other institution (as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997), or care provider facility; conviction of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or who was civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in such activity
    • Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor
    Requirements 
    • High School Diploma or GED with 2- 5 years’ experience in safety, security and/or the human service field.
    • Must obtain required safety & security credentials/certifications once hired
    • Demonstrates good verbal, written and oral communication skills.
    • High degree of proficiency with Windows, MS Word, and Excel. Confidence working with technology
    • Must have or be able to obtain Act 33, 34 and FBI
    • The ability to drive a car or van. Must have a valid PA driver’s license.
    • Fluency in Spanish and English (read, write and speak) preferred
    • Must be at least 21 years of age
     
    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
    • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local
    • standards
    • Ability to passively physically restrain a child if necessary
    • Quick physical response to a crisis situation
    • Ability to lift or push a minimum of 20 lbs by themselves or up to 50 lbs with the assistance of others.
    • Ability to stay awake for the entire working shift
    • Ability to verbally de-escalate children during a crisis situation
    • Capable of frequently climbing stairs and other activities that involve physical exertion (i.e. walking hallways, walking
    • across campus)
