    About Us

The Open Door, Inc. is a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located within Pittsburgh’s city limits. Since opening our doors in 2006, we have remained committed to a simple yet powerful truth: housing is healthcare. Our founders, staff, and the people we serve have long understood that stable housing is essential to improving health outcomes for individuals living with HIV who are also experiencing homelessness.

From the beginning, we worked to ensure that those who had been turned away from traditional support and housing programs had a place to call their own. Our transitional housing program, coupled with our individualized representative payee services, has empowered participants to achieve long-term stability, build financial management skills, and improve their overall well-being.

Since our founding, we have expanded our services and supported more than 300 individuals. Today, we continue our mission by providing transitional housing, non-medical case management, and financial support services—meeting each person where they are and helping them move toward where they want to be. Guided by a harm reduction philosophy, we believe in fostering dignity, autonomy, and empowerment for all we serve.
