  • Director, Field Maintenance

    Job Description
    The ACAA’s Director, Field Maintenance will report to the Vice President, Airport Operations and assumes responsibility for directing comprehensive maintenance and repair programs for all external areas of Pittsburgh International Airport. Oversees Field Maintenance Division to ensure effective implementation of assigned areas, which includes preventative maintenance, upkeep and repair of landside and airside facilities, grounds, taxiways, roadways, landscape systems, vehicles, and equipment.  
    • Plan, prioritize, assign, review, and coordinate, through subordinate trades and airport maintenance supervisors, the work of a large staff of skilled and semiskilled trades, maintenance and laboring personnel and equipment operators performing a variety of airfield, ramp, roadway, and grounds maintenance and repair functions. 
    • Develop, recommend, and implement a comprehensive maintenance and repair program, including preventative maintenance; determine and respond to interdepartmental construction and maintenance requirements; project equipment, material and manpower requirements for all plans and programs; establish program priorities; develop, submit and administer the department operating budget; identify and investigate cost overruns and irregular costs; review and analyze operational policies; initiate methods to reduce costs and promote efficiency.
    • Oversee the inventory of equipment, vehicles, materials and supplies; direct the lease, rental or purchase of major equipment; prepare/approve bid specifications for the acquisition of capital equipment and services of outside contractors.  Oversees work performed under contracts initiated by the Division.  Review and approve invoices for performance and compliance with terms.
    • Oversee the procurement, disposal and operational readiness of the Authority’s vehicle and equipment fleet. Prepares an annual capital budget for vehicles and equipment.
    • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including co-workers, the public, vendors, contractors, and tenants.
    • Direct the operation of a large and diverse fleet of light and heavy vehicles ensuring the fleet receives repair/maintenance when appropriate.
    • Coordinates the activities of a large crew engaged in the removal of snow and ice from runways, taxiways, aprons, pads, lots and road systems.
    • Assist in emergency situations and manages assigned staff to ensure the airfield and airport facilities are safe and secure.  
    • Direct a timely response to complaints by tenants, passengers, airlines, vendors and other Authority departments.
    • Ensure compliance with labor relation policies and labor contracts.
    • Responsible for continuing employee training and development.
    • Supervise, evaluate, coach, mentor, train, discipline and motivate subordinate staff
    • Prepare and administer performance evaluations for direct reports.
    • Performs other related tasks as assigned or required.

     Qualifications

     Requirements to apply for the role of Director, Field Maintenance are:

    • Bachelor’s degree in facilities management or business administration from an accredited college or university.  
    • 7 years related experience in field maintenance of a large complex supervising a multi-operational work force and contractors, engineering and construction experience preferred.
    • Possess or obtain prior to employment a valid Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license.  Note: license must be maintained throughout employment.
