    Job Description

    Under the broad supervision of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Legal Affairs, provide legal advice and consultation on airport business matters and transactions; ensure the Airport Authority complies with local, state, and federal laws, policies and procedures. The incumbent serves as a trusted advisor and represents the Airport Authority with the highest level of confidentiality, integrity, forthrightness, and professionalism.

    • Provide sound, accurate, and practical legal advice, opinions, and solutions regarding issues and risks relating to the ongoing and rapidly expanding business
    • Provide business and legal perspective and advice on a wide range of strategic, tactical, and operational issues to the Airport Authority.
    • Partner with and advise EVP & CFO on negotiations.
    • Manage, counsel, and negotiate legal and business transactions with suppliers, concessions, hotel, airlines, and other tenants or airport users.
    • Provide direction and oversight of documents for approval and signature by the CEO.
    • Track utilization of outside counsel for highly specialized areas such as bankruptcy, real estate, environmental, labor, procurement, construction, third-party liability claims, the collection of delinquent accounts, technology, negotiations, and intellectual property, tax law, and airport and aviation matters.
    • Oversight of the Freedom of Information Act process and Right to Know Requests.
    • Engage across the business units to identify legal issues and risks.
    • Oversees maintenance of all Airport Authority legal record keeping, including electronic records.
    • Initiate and perform legal research and prepare legal opinions.
    • Budget/Oversight of staff.
    • Perform other related tasks as assigned or required.

    The successful candidate in the Assistant General Counsel role will exhibit the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:   

    • Extensive knowledge of, and ability to understand, interpret, advise, and apply, federal, state, regional, local, and aviation law, regulations, policies, standards, and practices of complex, specialized, and diverse business transactions and processes.
    • Advanced ability to exercise sound, expert, independent judgments, provide accurate counsel, and reach appropriate conclusions within broad policies and guidelines.
    • Strong ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive correspondence, reports, studies, and other written materials.
    • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of Authority management, staff, consultants, representatives of federal, state, local and regional agencies, business and community groups, the development community, media representatives, the public, and others encountered in the course of work.
    • Ability to travel 5%.

     

    The minimum requirements needed to qualify for the Assistant General Counsel role are:

    • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited school of law.
    • Five (5) years legal experience in a law firm or as corporate or in-house legal counsel.
    • Active Pennsylvania Bar License and a member in good standing. 
    • Must be available to travel, occasionally.
