DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking an experienced Land Surveyor for our Pittsburgh office located in Moon Township, PA. The Survey department resides within the Land Development & Infrastructure Practice and represents a dedicated business line that is focused on land development, general civil works, oil & gas and environmental engineering. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated Surveyor able to perform work on a variety of field surveying assignments to facilitate the completion of projects including roads, building sites, recreational areas, and bridges. Types of field surveys include Boundary Surveys, Topographic Survey, ALTA/ASCM Land Title Surveys, Project Control Surveys, Hydrographic Surveys and Construction Layout and As-built Surveys.
Our projects involve supporting multiple practice groups within Michael Baker as well as external clients. A willingness and ability to travel within western Pennsylvania and the Great Lakes region regularly is required with some travel with the continental US as well as international possible.

- Prepare survey sites and remove necessary obstacles, including debris, brush, tree limbs, etc. to perform the survey
- Adjust and operate survey instruments such as robotic total stations, data collectors, laser scanners, GPS, and other standard survey equipment to collect field data
- Create legible and accurate field notes
- Conduct field surveys for boundaries, topography, etc.
- Provide construction staking for site layout, structures, grading, etc.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Two-year degree
- 5-10 years of related experience
- Survey license
- Knowledgeable in the effective practices, methods, and techniques of land surveying
- Strong math skills
- Knowledge of surveying instruments and equipment, their use and care
- Experience with Civil 3D a plus
- Candidates with S.I.T. a plus
- Candidates with a College Degree in Surveying a plus
- Effective communication, written and verbal skills
- Valid Driver’s License
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The surveying work is performed on construction sites, in heavy traffic areas, and on rough terrain. Candidate must:
- Be able to climb up and down steep hills generally through heavily wooded areas, and in all types of weather conditions
- Be able to carry the survey specific equipment necessary (depending on the assignment, the equipment can weigh in excess of 50 pounds)
- Be able to walk on uneven ground; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Be able to work outdoors for long periods of time
- Drive and navigate vehicles or equipment
- Inspect equipment, structures, or materials for errors or defects
- Service, repair, calibrate, regulate, fine-tune, or test machines, devices, and equipment
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $56,886 - $118,527. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
