DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join the team in the Pittsburgh (Moon Township), PA office. The successful candidate will be responsible for the execution of the technical aspects of a project within established schedule and budget constraints. They will be a mid-level NEPA document and permitting specialist with a minimum of 7 years of experience working for/under PennDOT or similar DOT. Having a basic understanding of environmental topics such as ecology, water quality, aquatic biota, vegetation and wildlife surveys, wetlands, noise and air monitoring, hazardous waste and land use is imperative.
This position requires the ability to assist with environmental technical studies including field work for project environmental studies. This may involve but not be limited to wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys, collecting samples for water quality, conducting surveys for aquatic biota, conducting vegetation and wildlife surveys, conducting hazardous waste evaluations, noise monitoring, processing collected samples and data, organizing, filing and storing data and preparing technical reports.
In the office you will:

In the office you will:
- Prepare and mail merge agency coordination letters
- Conduct Red Flag Investigation reports
- NEPA/Section 4(f) documents [e.g., BRPA and CE-1a, CE-1b and CE-2 reports]
- Plan and prepare applicable waterway permits
- Manage ArcGIS files
- Prepare for and attend agency and public meetings
- Coordinate with engineering staff and review road and bridge plans
In the field you will:
- Conduct wetland delineations and functions and values assessments
- Perform stream assessment studies
- Assist with surface water sample collection
- Provide field documentation regarding threatened and endangered species
- Assist with noise monitoring
- Provide accurate documentation of field activities
- Assist with Phase I, II, and III Environmental Site Assessments
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related field
- 7-10 years of relevant experience
- Proficiency in ArcView GIS systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil-3D, H&H Modeling and MicroStation is a plus
- USACE Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation training is a plus
- OSHA 40 HAZWOPER certification is a plus
- Proficiency in technical writing and quantitative data analysis is a must
- Must have a valid PA Driver's License or ability to secure
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $72,640 - $151,334. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
