DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking an Architectural Specifications Writer to join the team in our Moon Township, PA office. Under minimal supervision, the successful candidate will research, prepare, and develop progress and construction documents specifications for technical projects in collaboration with the design team. This position requires that the candidate has significant project experience and knowledge to facilitate an understanding of the project design requirements and translate those requirements into specifications for materials, methods, equipment, procedures, installation, and certification testing.
- Reviews design intent, drawings, and other project information related to writing and editing specifications for wide range of project types and sizes
- Meets with project design leads, including architects and engineers, to coordinate compliance with project requirements, institutional guidelines, product/assembly standards (ASTM, ANSI, NFPA, etc.), company standards, and project technical requirements including applicable regulations and codes across multiple geographies
- Experience working on Federal Government related projects is required
- Experience in developing specifications using SpecsIntact - Unified Facility Guide Specifications (UFGS) and MasterSpec (AIA)
- Reviews sustainable design intent and requirements, including LEED scorecard and USGBC Guiding Principles and provides knowledge input on material product selection for sustainable certification
- Performs product research; assists project designers with material selection and system research
- Provides quality management reviews and technical advice in design development through construction document phases
- Develops and maintains relationships with building material and systems vendors
- Assists Architects with shop drawings, samples, and product submittal for compliance with design intent and specifications requirements
- Maintains technical resource library (virtual and physical) and list of technical resource contacts
- May conduct internal specifications training
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, or equivalent
- 8+ years of related experience with at least 5 years in specification writing for Federal Government related projects
- Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) certification is a plus; LEED AP or USGBC Guiding Principles certified is preferred
- Experienced in developing specifications using SpecsIntact - Unified Facility Guide Specifications (UFGS) and MasterSpec (AIA)
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
- Organized and confident; effective visual/verbal communication skills are essential; proficient understanding of interrelationships among design/engineering disciplines, clients, and constructors
- Excellent English language skills, written and verbal, are essential
- Strong attitude towards personal and professional development as well as teamwork
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $54,392 - $132,763. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
